This is a very interesting, if not unorthodox piece of industrial furniture with great wear/texture, that can be used in a very creative way. It is called a "Surface Plate" or "Inspection Table" that is used by machinists due to it's very flat surface, for mounting, laying out and/or inspecting precision/delicate mechanical, electronic, and optical gauging systems. Additionally, it's used to measure the flatness and squareness of objects, especially precision metal work because the granite is hard and has a low sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. This is a lacquered custom-made welded steel table with a black granite top and intermediate painted wood shelf. It is a very heavy piece from the late 1970's, early 80's with adjustable feet. Due to it's innate industrial use or possibly even it's brutalist look, we could picture this being used for displaying a very precious or interesting sculpture in a contemporary loft project or as a highlight in a very clean-looking interior of any style.
