1950s Slovak Curved Opaline Glass Pendant Lights

1st Dibs

$463

This impressive collection of vintage pendant lights was salvaged from a public building in Slovakia, dating to the 1950s—an era when Eastern European manufacturers were producing some of the most characterful opaline lighting for schools, municipal halls and state-run institutions. Their graceful silhouettes reflect the mid-century shift towards softer, sculptural forms while maintaining the practicality required for high-use interiors. Each pendant features a hand-blown opaline glass shade with an elegant, subtly flared profile. The open-bottomed form allows for a warm, diffused glow combined with practical downward illumination—ideal for hallways, stairwells and other circulation spaces where clarity and ambience were equally important. Now sensitively restored, the lights are fitted with a powder-coated steel gallery and converted into simple, contemporary cable-suspended pendants suitable for modern residential or commercial use. Their organic forms make them excellent standalone centrepieces, but they are particularly striking when installed in multiples above kitchen islands, long dining tables or hotel lobbies.A rare opportunity to source a large, consistent run of authentic mid-century Eastern Bloc opaline lighting—timeless, versatile and full of architectural presence.
