1960s Mesko Industrial Graphite Grey Steel Pendant Light

1st Dibs

$875

These striking industrial graphite grey steel pendant lights were manufactured by Mesko in Poland during the 1960s and originally illuminated the streets of former Czechoslovakia. Built for demanding outdoor and municipal environments, the fixtures exemplify the robust engineering and functional design typical of Eastern Bloc industrial production during the mid-20th century.Founded in 1924 in Skarżysko-Kamienna, Poland, Mesko was one of the country’s leading heavy engineering and manufacturing companies. Initially established as an armaments and mechanical works, the company later expanded into electromechanical and industrial production during the post-war years, supplying equipment for factories, transport hubs, and public infrastructure across Central and Eastern Europe. Their lighting designs were engineered for longevity, typically produced in heavy-gauge steel or aluminium and built to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Each pendant has been sensitively restored and refinished, retaining its original Mesko manufacturer’s plaque and subtle industrial patina, preserving the authenticity and character of its utilitarian heritage. The broad steel shade provides strong downward directional illumination, making these fixtures particularly suited to large kitchens, dining areas, restaurants, bars, and commercial interiors with higher ceilings seeking an honest industrial aesthetic.Professionally restored by Loomlight, each light has been rewired using CE-certified electrical components (UL-listed components available for the United States) and is supplied ready to install with approximately 1 metre of ceiling hanging kit.A distinctive piece of Eastern European industrial design history, combining functional engineering with timeless industrial form.
