Le Klint’s Caleo 1 pendant simultaneously represents traditional and modern Danish design. Designed by Rikke Frost, the lamp was was first introduced in 2019 in an episode of the Danish television show Danmarks næste klassiker, although in a slightly different form. In the episode, contestants had to design a pendant that could be placed over a dining table. In collaboration with Le Klint, Frost set out to create a pendant that would feature pleating characteristic of the brand’s lighting, but that would highlight the technique in a new way. The result is Caleo, a pendant with white stringing decorations that emphasize the skill and effort needed to create the beautifully pleated paper shades. The name Caleo is a reference to this effect; Caleo is Latin and means ”to highlight”.
