A 1950s philips hdk series factory pendant light in black enamel with a white interior, topped with cast aluminum, made in the netherlands. philips produced the hdk series as industrial lighting for factories and workshops across the netherlands. The form is among the most recognizable of mid-century dutch factory lighting: a deep enamel shade engineered to direct light downward over a work surface, paired with a cast aluminum top housing. the white enamel interior reflects and softens the light, which makes the design as suitable above a dining table or kitchen island today as it was over a factory floor. the cast aluminum top has been blasted and refinished in satin black. The original heavy transformers have been removed, which reduces the weight considerably and makes the pendant easier to hang. Each light has been rewired to an e27 fitting with approximately 2 m of cable for hardwiring. several examples are available.
