Vintage Industrial Pendant Lamp In Copper And Glass, 1920s

Chairish

$1,052

A Luzette pendant lamp, often attributed to the German architect Peter Behrens. The model was originally developed for Siemens-Schuckert around 1920, but this example was likely produced by ASEA in Sweden in the late 1920s. Constructed from two glass shades held together by a copper ring and complete with its original porcelain and metal lampholder. Height 40 cm (85 cm including the copper stem), diameter 24 cm. There is quite a bit of confusion surrounding the Luzette lamp, a model introduced in the early 1920s or possibly late 1910s. The architect Peter Behrens is often mentioned as the designer, but we have been unable to find any proof of this. In fact, most historical records seem to indicate that it was developed by the engineers at Siemens-Schuckert, a company Behrens didn’t work for. Most likely, the true designers behind the Luzette are long forgotten, but nevertheless, it’s a beautiful example of early modernist industrial design with a touch of Jugend aesthetic. Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard). The wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
