Rare pendant lamp produced by Seguso Vetri d'Arte in the 1940s. Chromed metal frame, handkerchief-shaped pulegoso glass diffuser, and clear glass elements. Seguso is one of the oldest families on the island of Murano dedicated to the art of Venetian glass, known for the production of objects such as vases, bowls, and chandeliers, as well as for custom projects. Seguso works have been created for European royal families, the Vatican, hotels, and theaters. Seguso glass is featured in the permanent collections of glass and contemporary art museums, including the MOMA in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Corning Glass Museum, and the Murano Glass Museum. The oldest official family document is held in the State Archives of Venice and is dated May 3, 1397: in it, "Filius Segusi" is mentioned in connection with the glassmaking of Murano. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
