Light Green Filigree Murano Glass Frame, 2000s

Chairish

$2,075

This magnificent vertical photo frame is purely in the tradition of Venetian glassmaking. The technique used to achieve this rich optical effect is called filigree and requires highly skilled artisans. This photo frame features vibrant yellow-green Murano glass, covered with crystal. Fine lines of bright green, pale pink, and white curl around the crystal glass frame like delicate threads. "Filigrana" is a traditional technique that originated in the 16th century. This technique requires highly skilled artisans. They use long glass rods which they layer, intertwine, and fuse. Each rod is wound around a glass cylinder and blown. At the end of this process, the master glassmaker must keep each line of color separate, with the same thickness and curvature around the glass, as quickly as possible before the temperature drops. The result of this technique is almost hypnotic, producing a perfectly twisted net effect. It can be paired with vintage, classic, Art Deco, mid-century, or contemporary interiors and will be perfect for adorning your bookcases, consoles, shelves, or chests. It can be displayed alone or with other similar frames in different colors. It also makes an excellent gift.
