Japanese Wooden Hibachi Planter, 1930s

Chairish

$491

A traditional Japanese hibachi, made from heavy wood with a deep dark patina and a reddish copper lining. Dimensions: height 21 cm, diameter 38 cm. This round brazier has a strong, sober form with a broad rounded rim and a beautifully weathered wooden surface. The exterior shows a rich dark brown tone, subtle wear and a lively wood grain that has become more pronounced over time. The interior is fitted with a reddish copper lining, showing natural oxidation and green-blue patina. Originally, a hibachi was used as a charcoal brazier, but today this piece works beautifully as a sculptural planter, cachepot or decorative interior accent. with its low, wide shape and the combination of dark wood and aged copper, the object has a calm, almost architectural presence. Beautiful on the floor, on a low table or combined with ceramics, plants and other natural materials. A small handwritten marking can be found on the underside. In beautiful vintage condition, with signs of use, patina and oxidation consistent with age and use.
