An elegant, strikingly attractive monumental planter on a pedestal stand in lovely vintage condition. Likely made in europe in the 1950s, this alluringly impressive ornament will add sculptural grace and sophisticated neoclassical grandeur to any outdoor setting. impressively sized and reassuringly heavy, it was cast using a mix of fibreglass and cement, most likely in the 1950s after fibreglass became widely used. Similar to willy guhl’s mid century planters but more classical and antique-grecian in style, this outstanding ornament has the initials gjm or gjk stamped to the underside of the pedestal base. a large and versatile outdoor object, it was made as a planter, having a hole in the bottom for drainage, but could be easily made water-tight and repurposed as a bird bath or a wow-factor champagne bath for garden parties. all in all this is a rare, versatile and striking pedestal planter, which will add sculptural elegance and neoclassical splendour to any setting. condition this is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound, it has to-be-expected marks and wear to the white painted finish, which only adds to its vintage/antique appeal, and a repaint would be a relatively easy job. Overall it’s a stunning piece in lovely condition and if well looked after it should be just as alluring for generations to come – please see the photos. measurements total height – 64cm, max diameter – 80cm, total weight – 26kg. pedestal base height – 41cm, pedestal base diameter – 44cm, pedestal base weight – 15.5kg. planter top height – 25cm, planter top diameter – 80cm, planter top weight – 10.5kg.
