Hand-carved stoneware planter by California ceramicist Robert Maxwell, signed on the base. This piece dates to the late 1960s or early 70s, created in his own studio apart from his better-known Earthgender collaboration with David Cressey. Features Maxwell’s signature vertical-oval relief motif, carved into a raw, iron-rich clay body. Sculptural yet functional, with a single drainage hole. Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Dimensions: • Diameter: 8.25" • Height: 5.5" Maxwell was a key figure in the postwar West Coast ceramics movement, working alongside names like Stan Bitters and Cressey. A solid fit for Brutalist, Organic Modern, or MCM interiors.
