Pair Of Cerulean Blue Glazed Terracotta French Anduze Garden Pots

Chairish

$3,900

During the 17th century, containers such as this pair of terracotta garden pots were used to plant orange and lemon trees at noble estates in the South of France. Synonymous with the commune where they were produced, our Anduze pots were handmade in the traditional ways and finished with a striking cerulean blue glaze. The signature “Le Madeleine Anduze” can be seen on each pot, in between floral swags that form a continuous festoon around the main body. Additional motifs include thin recessions beneath the flowering garlands and the renowned Anduze medallions. Most collectors will appreciate the classic beauty of these pots and choose to present them as decorative pottery indoors; however, they can be used as originally intended as planters. It is advised to use a liner when planting with soil, and for those who live in colder environments, the pots should be moved to a covered area during the winter.
