Pair Of Small, Cream Colored Terra Cotta Pots From Anduze, France

Chairish

$1,400

These wonderful terra cotta pots, signed “Le Madeleine Anduze”, were originally used in the South of France for the planting of large fruit trees. In the 17th century, pots like this could be found on noble estates. The pots seen here are smaller than those used for fruit trees, yet they are still completely made by hand, in the traditional ways. Accents of green and brown embellish the cream finish, which has been intentionally distressed to reveal slight traces of the terra cotta orange. Floral swags form a continuous ring around the pots, elegantly spanning the space between thin recessions in the middle of the body and the renowned Anduze medallions above. Measuring 12 ½ inches tall with a diameter of 11 ½ inches, these small, cream colored Anduze pots are perfect planters for flowers or herbs. They would also make wonderful decorative objects for either outside or indoors. For those who live in climates where winter freezes are expected, the pots should be moved to a covered area. It is also advised to use a liner when planting with soil.
