Heywood Brothers & Company dates back to 1826 and was the rival of Wakefield, which was established in 1855. This delightful wicker rocking chair is a true antique, bearing the label of its manufacturer on the underside (refer to picture 18). The details are exquisite with an abundance of scrolls on the back and sides. The seat is woven rattan and is supported by metal springs underneath, making it a very comfortable chair. It is in remarkably good antique condition. There is a small break in the weaving on the back (refer to picture 9). The wooden rockers have scuffs and marks on them (refer to picture 14). These condition issues are minimal and only add to the character of this piece. I photographed this rocking chair outside on a partially overcast afternoon in May. It will invariably look different when viewed in an interior setting under artificial light. Please take this into consideration when matching colors.
