Sgarsul Rocking Chair By Gae Aulenti For Poltronova 1962

Chairish

$3,112

Sgarsul (Neapolitan dialect and means “scugnizzo” or street urchin) rocking chair designed by the renowned architect and designer Gae Aulenti in 1962 for Poltronova Italy. She made her debut as a designer with this remarkable piece of furniture, when she was just in her thirties. The chair is a modern reinterpretation of Thonet's famous rocking chair No1 from 1862. It shows how Aulenti saw innovation, not as a complete departure from the past, but as a creative and inventive dialogue with it. The chair has black lacquered bent beech plywood stucture with a sleek black gloss finish, that gives it a modern and elegant appearance. The cognac/brick red leather seating is still original and in very good condition. Also the wooden frame is excellent. Only little traces of wear. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
