Modern Rocking Chair. Signed "Carl Gromoll 1983". The Rocker is handcrafted of stacked, laminated, carved and polished Baltic birch. Due to the complexity and time consuming construction process, Gromoll only produces a very limitied number of pieces per year (including all types of furniture) with the help of 6 assistants. Only a few of those were rocking chairs. Due to his age, there may be very limited availability of his sculptural furniture in the future so this is a unique opportunity to obtain one of your own. The Rocker is amazingly comfortable and is dramatically curved and and smooth to the touch. While very low to the ground, it is form-fitting chair smooth rocking action. Despite being a modern piece, it fits seamlessly into both traditional and transitional environments as well as contemporary settings.. Note: Due to the design the seat width is 21" at the front and 13" at the back, so it conforms to the body maximizing comfort. Wear is consistent with normal age and use. It appears to be in its original condition with only minor wear as listed and shown in photos below. Their is faint lightening on the bottom of both rocking legs from normal rocking activity. There is some finish wear to the legs and very minor small indentations and minor scratches which are shown in photos below. However, it presents as new and is a sculptural work of art wherever placed in your home. . Look at photos carefully as they show 4-5 very minor scuffs on side legs and 1 very small indentation where it may bumped something on the right lower back. Gromoll ((b.1950 Wisconsin) began making wooden objects in 1971, receiving a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1974. His work was included in the 2008 exhibition "Functional Sculpture: Furniture from the Upper Midwest, " at Carleton College, and in Donna Meilach’s "Creating Modern Furniture." (1975). Due to his age and reduced production, his crafted furniture has only become more valuable over the years. As of this writing, pieces are selling in high-end markets as high as $16,000. Enjoy this beautiful sculpture in your own home and rock comfortably in style!
