A beautiful Chinese lacquered and painted four paneled room divider, featuring four folding panels displaying a lovely painted courtyard scene of wispy figures in beautiful flowing traditional garb, water landscape and structures in soft colors against a vivd black lacquered background, with hues of crimson, gilt, white, and forest green in display. The reverse shows lovely gilt painted depictions of mountains, forestry and Chinese script. Affixed with brass hinges and feet. The screen’s beautiful and crisp details are well-preserved. Each panel measures 72” high and 16" wide. "Coromandel" refers to Chinese lacquerware. These screens were often coated with as many as thirty layers of lacquer. They were called Coromandel, which refers to the coast in India where the screens were loaded onto ships bound to Europe.
