This vintage Navajo rug (c. mid-20th century) features a powerful stepped geometric design on a warm ivory field. Two large central medallions dominate the composition, each built from bold right-angled forms in deep red, soft brown, and grey, enclosing a smaller diamond motif at the center. Flanking the medallions are stacked serrated bands in red and brown that echo the central pattern and add strong vertical energy. A line of red triangles runs along the top and bottom of the field, framed by a dramatic outer border of staggered brown and grey steps, all enclosed in a clean red outline. Handwoven in all-wool yarns on a traditional Navajo upright loom, this rug has the crisp, graphic look associated with trading-post era pieces and works beautifully as either a floor covering or a statement wall hanging.
