This circa-1920 antique Persian Tabriz carpet features an all-over design of floral abstractions, arabesques, palmettes, and serrated leaf patterns in shades of light beige and sea green against a field of beige, with an overall muted patina. Multiple borders containing botanical and geometric abstractions complete the intriguingly Oriental look of this antique rug. The famous textile-manufacturing city of Tabriz, the Azerbaijani-populated province in the northwest of Iran, boasts one of the oldest rug weaving centers in the world and produces a large variety of Persian carpets characterized by having an especially fine knot density (indicative of high-quality hand-knotted rugs).
