Late 19th Century Antique Bidjar Rug - 4′8′′ × 7′7′′

Chairish

$2,100

This late 19th century all wool Bidjar long scatter rug displays a medium blue ground with an allover Herati pattern which supports a rusty rose hexagonal sub-field.The sub-field has a similarly scaled Herati design and is centered by a navy palmette medallion with characteristic Bidjar anchor pendants.Indigo blue tones predominate: navy, medium blue, teal and a second brighter medium azure. Bidjars traditionally were all wool, but changed to cotton warps around 1920.They are justly famous for their ultra-solid construction and very long life, even in active areas. The pile of our example has always been short, but of excellent Kurdish tribal wool, tightly compacted. All the dyes are natural. The condition is good, with even slight wear.
