Design Within Reach

Handwoven from locally sourced Argali wool, the Linger Rug (2025) by Dutch industrial designer Edith van Berkel for Maharam explores a novel approach to classic ikat. Her process-oriented approach honors traditional weaving techniques while prioritizing reduced environmental impact. Color is applied by hand using dip-dye methods - wrapping wool bundles before arranging them on the loom to create subtle gradation. Vivid hues shift into neutrals, muted by undyed wool in a basketweave structure, while hand-stitched silk fringe in contrasting tones defines the borders. Made in Nepal.
