Hand-woven in wool and originating from Turkey circa 1950-1960, this 10x13 vintage Kilim is a rich new curation from Rug & Kilim’s collection of mid-century flatweaves of an interesting, widely celebrated provenance. On the Design: This design remarks the panel-weaving technique, similar to patchwork rugs, in which tribal weavers combine multiple pieces into a larger Kilim. This flatweave is composed of five different panels, all featuring striped patterns in beige and oak-brown hues over cream white tones—the latter color seldom seen in this weaving style, and even more seldom in this crisp, bright condition having aged so well. The individualistic variations among panels and subtle variations of color in the striped patterns are inherent design elements in this technique that sit beautifully underfoot. This piece is also rare to find in a large size for paneled flatweaves today, and is sure to be treasured by collectors, connoisseurs, and designers alike. Condition: This vintage paneled Kilim further enjoys good condition for its age and origin.
