This hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner features two large stepped hexagonal medallions with interior latch-hooks and earring motifs. A variety of flowers and traditional Anatolian symbols, including amulets, crosses and diamonds, are spread throughout the field. Earrings, a common wedding present in Anatolia, represent marriage. Amulets and diamonds are both used to protect against evil. Simple barber’s pole guard borders offset a large graphic main border composed of dragon motifs and rosettes. The dragon motif represents the mythical creature believed to be the guardian of treasure.
