A stunning late 18th century Spanish Colonial intricately hand carved figural wooden newel post torchère lamp statue. Modeled as a putti (cherub), having inset glass eyes, polychrome paint, depicted standing, one leg slightly in front of the other, one arm bent supporting post, on circular base. This wonderful piece would have been positioned on top of the beginning of a grand staircase railing, holding up a candle or lantern to light the the area. Nicely aged patina. Highly desirable rustic. distressed, worn appearance.
