It was created during the Moorish Revival, a movement that blossomed after the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in Egypt. This piece is based heavily on Egyptian culture, with a somewhat Victorian flair. This sphinx is made of plaster, Painted with a rich, antique brown shade and highlighted in gold. It is mounted on a slab of gray marble with blue and green flecks.
