This striking vintage butterfly sculpture features a delicately balanced brutalist design crafted from torch-cut metal and mounted on a geometric black painted wood base. The airy openwork wings, organic asymmetry, and expressive hand-cut edges give the piece a wonderful sculptural presence. One of my favorite details is the subtle movement created by the delicate wire mounting, which gives the butterfly a wonderfully weightless feeling, almost as if it has just landed or is about to take flight. The long wire antennae and elevated mounting further enhance the airy, kinetic quality of the piece. With its combination of organic form and geometric presentation, the sculpture feels very much in the spirit of 1970s brutalist and studio craft design, reminiscent of Curtis Jeré style metalwork.
