Bronze sculpture on a wood base by Carrie Abramowitz (American 1913-1999). Abstract bronze sculpture of a bird signed and dated 1971. Abramovitz was born in Brooklyn and received a doctorate in economics in 1940 from Columbia University. She and her husband arrived in Palo Alto in 1948, when her husband joined the Stanford faculty. She began doing art in the early 1950s. Her work won recognition from the Northern California Women Artists Association, and a piece by Mrs. Abramovitz now hangs on the wall of the downtown library in Palo Alto. She was honored by the city of Oaxaca in Mexico for a piece presented to the city to mark Oaxaca's 450th anniversary. Her other work appears in the Neuberger Museum in New York as well as in private collections in America and Europe.
