A decorative bronze sculpture depicting “Der Eisengießer” (The Iron Founder), based on a 1916 model by German sculptor Gerhard Adolf Janensch. The depiction of a foundry worker shielding his eyes from the glare of molten metal is a powerful industrial motif, characteristic of German realism and early modernism of the early 20th century. The dynamic, compact form and realistic detailing are in line with the aesthetics of Jugendstil / Art Nouveau in its more monumental, industrial vein. The offered piece is a cast (ca. 1950–1975) based on the historical model from 1916. The sculpture is not signed or numbered. There are no foundry markings. The figure is cast in bronze with a deep, dark brown patina and mounted on a massive green marble base. Its heavy weight (4.2 kg) and solid workmanship indicate that it is a mid-20th-century handcrafted piece, rather than a contemporary lightweight decorative replica. Ideal for interiors in the following styles: - industrial - modernist - loft - classic library or study - 20th-century figurative sculpture collection Technical data: Title: “Der Eisengießer” Model author: Gerhard Adolf Janensch Model year: 1916 Casting period: approx. 1950–1975 Material: bronze Base: marble Total height: 31 cm Weight: 4.2 kg Signature: none Condition: Very good vintage condition.
