His eyes, however, do not appear blind, but rather—precisely because they are half-closed—particularly perceptive. And what the greatest poet of antiquity perceives seems to shape his entire physiognomy from within. A dynamism that is also evident in his beard and hair. And yet, his posture is outwardly completely serene, which testifies to his greatness and lends Homer a monumental quality emphasized by the stepped pedestal. The artist succeeds in bringing the ancient bust to life and interpreting it in a completely unique way.
