A carved Thai wooden sculpture of a praying Apsara, with flat back and dark patina. Attracting our attention with its dark patina and angular depiction, this wooden sculpture, unfinished and flat on the back depicts a praying Apsara, a female spirit of the clouds and waters. Topped with a conic headdress presenting a delicately textured presence, the Apsara is holding her hands up while her left sleeve is pointed downwards. This contrast of shapes is echoed on the rest of the surface presenting sinuous lines and is complimented by the darkness of the patina. With its skillfully executed treatment and nicely weathered appearance, this carved wooden Apsara sculpture will be an undeniable conversation piece displayed against a wall.
