Beautifully crafted antique French bronze statue of Penelope Sleeping by Pierre Jules Cavelier. Originally exhibited at Salon in 1842 as " Femme Grecque Edormie " in plaster and was later exhibited in the year 1849 as a marble sculpture under the title of " Penelope ". It was cast almost exclusively by the foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne. There are several marks located on the side, back, and bottom of the sculpture as shown in the photographs.
