Antique statue of Saint Paul the Apostle, hand-carved from solid oak in the late 18th century. Depicted draped in a solemn toga, Saint Paul holds in one hand an original forged metal sword, a symbol of the Word of God, and in the other the Book of Epistles, a reminder of his evangelizing mission. The woodwork reveals a high level of skill among church sculptors of the Ancien Régime: an expressive face, deeply carved folds of the cloak, and an attitude imbued with gravity and spirituality. The sculpture retains traces of its original polychromy, a moving testament to its history and liturgical use.
