A signed bronze figural sculpture by Benjamin Kopman, mounted on a black marble base. The piece depicts a seated female figure with raised arms and has a strong modernist look, with simplified lines, an expressive face, and a dark bronze patina that works especially well with the marble plinth. It is signed and numbered as an edition of 8. Kopman is primarily known as a painter and WPA-era artist, and his sculpture appears to be quite uncommon. To our knowledge, only one other Kopman bronze is publicly documented, in the collection of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, which makes this a particularly interesting example of his work. A great piece for collectors of modernist sculpture, WPA-era artists, or bronze figural works with a bit of presence and personality.
