This making process and surface finish give eachpiece irregularities and surface markings, which enhance its appearance and individuality. The surface finish is water-resistant and can be wiped with a damp cloth. To maintain the shine, use beeswax polish.Rachel Heritage is a British designer and maker working in London, producing unique furniture and sculptural pieces. After studying furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London, she has followed a career designing furniture for commercial manufacture and now focuses on designing and producing her own individual pieces for the modern domestic interior. Her design process begins with simple geometric shapes that are placed together like building blocks to make sculptural forms. It is this precise combination of geometry that hascreated her own unique style, the solid, robust forms that characterise her collection of furniture and sculptural pieces. Each piece in the collection is individually handmade by the artist using a process she has developed over time. The structure is made from recycled cardboard, plywood, and fibre-cement, with the final surface coat made from layers af hand-burnished plaster. This hand-crafted mix of colour and texture results in each piece being unique and having its own individual character.“This is sculptural form reduced to a minimum, solid geometric blocks, straight lines, gentle curves, verticals and horizontals, a process of refinement ultimately creating pieces with a sturdy elegance derived from their own simplicity. “This series of small pieces is part of a study into the relationship of geometric shapes placed together. Each sculpture is reduced to a minimum, with the relationship of shapes carefully chosen. The sculptures can each be rotated in all three dimensions so that one sculpture becomes several, with each change of perspective provoking a different response.
