BN IV Contemporary Sculpture in Wood & Mixed Media by Michal ŠkodaOne of a Kind.Dimensions: D 45 x W 40 x H 65 cm. Materials: Wood and mixed media.“Space and the human being are my central theme, connected with many questions concerning our existence. I am particularly interested in three moments—relationships, perception, and emptiness. I try to perceive everyday life and the world around me, while also working with history and memory; the phenomenon of time is equally important to me.The foundation of my inspiration is place—the lived experience of a place. Architecture has a profound influence on my life and work, which are inseparable. Not only does it affect me, as it does everyone, every second of life, but it is also, one could say, a daily theme for me. However, I am not primarily interested in architecture from the perspective of construction, but rather from the aspect that matters most to me: the creation of a place for human beings. At the same time, the relationship between architecture and nature is very important to me. I work with the language of geometry, which is not my goal, but a means of expression.I perceive the world and life; I communicate with my surroundings and with the environments I inhabit. I process everything internally, and through my work I then attempt to communicate back to the world. My work is a materialization of inner feelings, thoughts, and emotions. I find many references both in everyday life and in memory and history. All of this is, in essence, a transformation of the immaterial into the material.I find the greatest depth in ordinariness, simplicity, and austerity. I am interested in the search for order and in beauty from a spiritual perspective. One of my central themes is the aforementioned “emptiness”—definition and relationships—concerning the “in-between”: between words, people, objects, boundaries; the interval; the intersection of place and time; the relationships of objects and contexts. Emptiness as a beginning, as being—not emptiness in the sense of nothingness, but emptiness as a space filled with spirit, a space to be filled…” Michal Skoda
