A superb antique bronze and marble sculputure group titled "the betrothal" by carl kauba (1865-1922), circa 1890 in date. The bronze features a classical youth placing a ring on the hand of a girl sitting on a stepped marble base, signed c kauba fecit. This high quality hot cast solid bronze was produced using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method.
