She also explores the poetry that lies in the slight imbalance and irregularities provided by the human eye and gesture. As a trained cabinet-maker, Albane works primarily with wood and builds herself each of her designs. She favors asymmetrical shapes that result from freehand drawings and avoids using jigs and gauges. Albane Salmon also likes to retort to contrasting textures, colors and treatments that both highlight and alter the qualities of wood and act like a trompe l’oeil. The viewers are led to question their senses and to wonder about the nature and the unity of the material used. Besides creating one of a kind and small series of objects and furniture, Albane Salmon works on commissioned projects such as custom solid wood furniture and installations.
