Contemporary abstract stoneware sculptures by Valéry Maillot, 2015.Uniques Pieces, La Borne, France._______Dimensions : (1) H 80 cm – (2) (3) H 112 cm – (4) H 123 cm_______Valéry Maillot's work consists in experimenting shapes and ways of firing his sculptures, which are sometimes shaped by the lathe, the plate or the columbine. Convinced that the project takes a more important part over the object, the construction of a wood-burning kiln (anagama type) in his workshop allows him to explore slow firing and the effect of the passage of flames on his stoneware ceramics. The artist reproduces the same forms, the same gestures to the point of obsession in order to observe the evolution of the technique until he is forgotten. What he’s looking for is to seek out the challenge that arises between the mechanics of shaping and the unknown of experience.
