Repoussé is the traditional art of hand-hammering decorative relief onto sheet metal. This technique involves using a hammer and various shaping tools. After the hammering of the sheet metal to form a shape or decorative relief, each layer of lacquer is applied with a curing period of 24 hours in between so that it can dry. Robert Kuo lacquer pieces is made with at least 60 coats of organic east asian lacquer, This means it could take up to a year for a large lacquer piece to be completed. Each piece is individually crafted and is unique. Cleaning solutions will alter the finish/plate. Repoussé accessories and furniture of any finish will patina when placed outdoors or in a humid environment.
