Deriva N.23

TRNK

$950

Deriva y Trampa, a new body of work produced by Canoa Lab for TRNK, is inspired by Alfarería de Trampa (Trap Pottery) - a centuries-old ceramics tradition from the designers’ native Valencia, Spain. Historically, the artists’ idea was to trick or confuse. The most recurring Alfarería de Trampa form is the Botija Trampa - a bottle designed with innumerable spouts, resulting in spilled water rather than quenched thirst. Canoa Lab’s contemporary interpretation maintains a different motive. The exhibition features twenty new, one-of-a-kind works adorned with extraneous openings, holders, and taps. By obscuring the object’s primary function, artistry, craft, and form prevail. Leveraging the history of Alfaria de Trampa, Deriva y Trampa investigates the relationship between object and utility. If form does not need to relegate itself to function, how does the craftsman prioritize the two while properly celebrating both?
