Along with sacrificial vessels, food, ceramic camels, and figures of dancers, horse figurines were also placed in tombs, in the hope of a more peaceful afterlife for the deceased. Even today, the horse figurines of the Tang Dynasty, also known as "sacred horses," are considered exceptionally beautiful horse sculptures.
