Chairish

$14,890

Eurydice, one of the Nereids, is depicted in a bronze statue from the 19th century. Her long hair flows freely amidst a rocky landscape and she wears a conch shell as an earring. The sculpture bears the signature «Eugene Marioton» (1857-1933). Eugène Marioton, a French sculptor who focused on casting bronze pieces, was born in Paris on April 7th of the year 1857. He dedicated himself to following Neoclassicism traditions and fashioned small sculptures featuring historical French leaders alongside figures from ancient Greece and Rome. During his career, he frequently contributed to exhibitions held by the Society of French Artists. His high standing within this group led him to serve as a jury member for their sculpture section during the salon event in 1905. Before passing away in 1933, Marioton garnered numerous awards recognizing his talent such as those given by the Society of Fine Arts along with receiving an artist grant awarded specifically towards supporting young creatives through General funding initiatives at that time period too.
