Presented in this listing is a large, biomorphic wood sculpture by the late Philadelphia-based artist, Eva Martino. The piece is sculpted from a single piece of wood and depict smooth, nebulous shapes that protrude from a circular, jagged base. Like the artist's other works, this piece reflects Martino's contribution to the biomorphic art movement pioneered by artists such as Jean Miró and Jean Arp. However, Martino's use of wood as a medium makes her pieces particularly unique as they place a botanical material in the center of the very movement it inspired. This sculpture measures 13" in height and 12" in diameter and is signed...with the artist's initials "EM." It was purchased in vintage condition and has since undergone a $650 full restoration by an experienced wood specialist in greater Washington DC (receipt upon request).
