Focht (1879-1937) was born in Paris in 1879 and studied under the famous sculptor Falguière. His remarkable talent was recognized early in his career, exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français and winning the coveted Medal of Honor in 1900 at the age of 21. An important figure in the Art Deco movement, this artist who was also an opera tenor, died in 1937. Jean Mermoz, born in Aubenton on December 9, 1901 and disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean on December 7, 1936, is a French aviator, legendary figure of Aéropostale, nicknamed the Archangel.
