George Lilanga (1934-2005) was a Tanzanian artist considered a genius of Swahili painting. Raised in the Tanzanian highlands within the Makonde culture, renowned for its art of sculpture, through his creations, he expressed his feelings by developing a cohesive artistic universe, generally centered around vibrant, colorful figures linked to Makonde mythology. He attended the Tingatinga School in Dar es Salaam. His internationally acclaimed work has promoted Tanzanian and African art in museums and private collections. This is a painted and varnished wooden sculpture depicting a rugby player. The colors are very vibrant (with some minor marks in places), the wood is in very good condition, and the piece is signed on the base. Dimensions: - Height: 51 cm - Base: 16/17 cm - Weight: 2.5 kg This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
