Hippolyte François Moreau “Crépuscule” Patinated Bronze Sculpture, Ca. 1857 [Jb]

Chairish

$4,000

A finely modeled 19th century French bronze titled Crépuscule (Twilight) by Hippolyte François Moreau, signed “Hip. Moreau.” This elegant composition presents an allegorical female figure accompanied by a putto, a subject that reflects Moreau’s early academic training and enduring interest in poetic figuration. Cast in patinated bronze with a rich, even surface, the sculpture demonstrates the refined modeling and naturalistic detail associated with Moreau’s work. He trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts under François Jouffroy and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in 1863, later earning recognition at the Expositions Universelles. Examples of this particular model appear infrequently on the market, suggesting limited circulation and strong retention within private collections. Comparable works by Moreau of similar scale and subject are currently offered at retail between $9,000 and $13,000, making this an especially compelling acquisition. A substantial and decorative bronze with strong presence, suitable for a console, pedestal, or library setting. Dimensions Height: 26 in Condition Very good antique condition with an even, well-preserved patina. Minor wear consistent with age. Origin France, circa 1857 Available through JG Antiquary Co., Seattle
