Japanese Meiji Bronze Okimono Of A Wild Boar By Akasofu Gyokko

Chairish

$6,900

An exquisite Japanese sculpture of a Wild Boar from the Meiji period (1868-1912) raised over a fine carved and lacquered hardwood base. Finely cast, expertly chiseled and chased with a delightful stippled texturing throughout. Signed to the underside in a raised relief by the very well-regarded sculptor Akasofu Gyokko. His ouvre includes a broad line of wonderful figural animals (especially birds) as well as many Samurai figures - the work is almost always expertly chiseled and of exceedingly good quality. Measurements: 8 1/2" H x 6 1/2" D x 14 1/4" W [total dimensions including base]; 7 1/2" H [bronze only] Condition Report: Trace wear to patina in a few areas (see photos), very minor. Carefully cleaned and sealed. A very fine state of overall preservation. Old museum accession numbers to the underside in red pigment.
