Architectural ribbed “grill” façade element designed by Jean Prouvé and manufactured by Compagnie industrielle du matériel de transport in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, 1957. This panel formed part of the INSA Lyon Doua Campus buildings in Villeurbanne, completed in 1957. Conceived as an insulating architectural component, the element is executed in pressed aluminium and filled with foam, combining structural lightness with thermal performance. This panel was one of 3 sizes used in the building, being the largest size.The so-called “grill” panels by C.I.M.T. were selected across the teaching buildings and the restaurant for their technical precision and their capacity to adapt to a modular architectural language. Their ribbed surface not only reinforces the panel structurally but also creates a subtle rhythm of light and shadow, transforming a purely functional façade element into a refined visual composition.
