LARGE CONE WITH LINES is part of a series of abstract sculptures made of raku fired ceramic combined with holography. The raku has a black/gray matt finish and two round openings with glowing holographic images of machine parts that are surrounded by incised lines. The last pictures show a group show and three of the pieces grouped together. DIMENSIONS 12 1/2" high by 9" diameter. ABOUT THIS WORK This series consists of raku fired clay that was hand molded into clean looking organic/geometric shapes that were designed to contrast with the high-tech holography. The holograms were custom made for this project and are three-dimensional images of old machine parts that were collected from a now defunct scrap yard. The images are recorded on thin plastic film and are archival. These are reflection holograms, and a single halogen or LED spot light placed above and in front of the piece gives the best image clarity. In diffused light the holograms will still be visible and glowing, but the imagery will be less distinct. The ceramic has been hand made in custom molds which are then glazed and fired in an outdoor kiln.
