This impressive terracotta sculpture captures Neptune, the God of the Sea. Finely sculpted details show the intricate shell on his head and the serious expression on his face. An exquisite example of cold patina. Signed R. Thiele. Rudolf Thiele was a German sculptor born in 1856. He died in 1930. Neptune's bust sits on a square base reading "CYKLON". On the back of the base: "Made in Austria Ernst Wahliss Turn Wien 200" Ernst Wahliss was a leading Vienna retailer in porcelain and ceramic goods. His Vienna store was established in 1863.
